Meet Larry the Ornate Nile Monitor Lizard

Sponsor Larry the Ornate Nile Monitor Lizard

Thanks for sponsoring Larry! He is an adult Nile Monitor Lizard, about 12-years-old. Monitors are carnivorous, so Larry needs plenty of fresh fish, eggs, rodents, and other "carnivore goodies" for a balanced diet. Nile Monitors come from a very hot climate in Africa, so we use lots of energy to keep Larry warm and comfy. If you'd like to sponsor Larry, please click his paypal button below. Donations of $50 or more will receive an 8x10 picture of Larry, along with a formal Thank You letter, which will document your tax-deductible contribution to Reptile Rescue.

Meet Martin the Argentine Tegu Lizard (and learn the Tegu Song!)

Sponsor Martin the Argentine Tegu

Thanks for sponsoring Martin the Tegu! Martin is an adult Tegu Lizard, about 5-years-old. He came to the rescue from a great home, but his owner had to move away to college and was unable to look after him. Tegus are mainly carnivorous, so Martin needs plenty of fresh fish, bugs, eggs, rodents, and other "carnivore goodies" for a balanced diet. We also offer occasional fruit and veggies, since Tegus are known to buck the trend of pure carnivores and live a slightly omnivorous lifestyle. Tegus come from a very hot and humid climate in South America, so we use lots of energy to keep Martin warm and comfy. If you'd like to sponsor Martin, please click his paypal button below. All donations are appreciated, and donations of $50 or more will receive an 8x10 picture of Martin, along with a formal Thank You letter, which will document your tax-deductible contribution to Reptile Rescue.

Meet our Tortoises!

Sponsor a Tortoise

Thanks for sponsoring our tortoises! They need lots of heat and fresh hay and plenty of fresh fruits, veggies, and vitamin suppliments! They are also prone to "catch a cold" and occasionally we must take them to the vet to treat respiratory infections. $50 will sponsor a tortoise for a month, $500 will sponsor a tortoise for an entire year, and $2500 will support all of our resident tortoises for a year, and many of the rescued tortoises that stay with us for a few months! The tortoises thank you in advance for your tax-deductible support! Following your Tortoise Donation, you will receive an 8x10 photo of a Rescue Tortoise, along with a Thank You letter, which will document your tax-deductible contribution to Reptile Rescue.

Meet our Burmese Pythons!

Sponsor a Python

Thanks for sponsoring Casper and Jasper, our resident Burmese Pythons! Thousands of children each year become closer to reptiles after meeting them. Burmese Pythons need lots of heat and prekilled rats and rabbits, and vitamin suppliments to stay healthy. And most importantly, they need lots of SPACE! Casper and Jasper are about 10-13 feet long, currently, and may grow to be 20 feet and 200 pounds! Casper was abandoned in a New Jersey junk yard, and Jasper came into the rescue after his own was sentenced to jail time. Despite their reputations as cold-blooded killers, they are extremely friendly and are invaluable members of our Outreach Programs. $40 will sponsor a Burmese Python for a month, $400 will sponsor a python for an entire year, and $1,000 will support Casper and Jasper for an entire year, as well as many of the rescued pythons that stay with us for a few months. These big boys thank you in advance for your tax-deductible support! Following your Python Donation, you will receive an 8x10 photo of a Rescue Python, along with a Thank You letter, which will document your tax-deductible contribution to Reptile Rescue.

FAQ about donating to Forgotten Friend, Inc.

Where does my donation go?

Our two main focuses at Forgotten Friend are Reptile Rescue and Reptile Educational Outreach in the community. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group, we keep detailed financial records to ensure that every dollar we receive goes toward the charitable purposes we're here to accomplish.

But where does my donation REALLY go? I mean, REALLY?

Forgotten Friend is a permanent home to more than 30 reptiles, and a temporary home for dozens more which come and go as we find better homes for them. In 2008 we will be adding videos to this page that will introduce you to several of our permanent residents who benefit from your donations. You'll meet Casper and Jasper the Burmese Pythons, Harley and Spot the Red Tail Boas, Boo and Isadore the Iguanas, Condie the Yellow Anaconda, Bacon and Tiny the Alligators, Shelbyville, Baby, and Sabian the Tortoises, and many more of our permanent residents. Each donation supports these reptiles and others, so we hope to introduce you to them very soon!

What's the big deal about donations being tax-deductible?

We document all of the support we receive and we'll send you a thank you letter documenting the ammount of your donation. Because we are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, that letter qualifies you for additional money back on your tax return.

Are equipment donations tax-deductible?

Yes, they sure are. If you have reptile cages and lights rotting in your basement, you can donate them to reptile rescue. In addition to helping a good cause, you'll receive a thank you letter documenting the fair market value of your donation. Donating cages with a fair market value of $100 earns the same tax-deduction as a financial donation of $100. We had a very generous donor give us thousands of dollars worth of video equipment for our educational films, which was completely tax-deductible.

Where does my equipment donation go?

We use eqipment donations for three main purposes. First, we try to use equipment donations for direct needs here at our rescue. If we don't have a direct need for a specific piece of donated equipment, we won't let it go to waste. We will either donate it to another nonprofit or educational group, or sell it to raise money for the rescue. This year we've helped several teachers outfit their classrooms with lots of reptiles, so many students will have their first encounters in a positive setting.
